About the place

Visit the Brucebo artists’ residence this summer. The house, situated on Själsö, was built in the turn-of-the-century style by the artists Carolina Benedicks-Bruce and her husband William Blair Bruce. It was here that the couple worked and found inspiration for their art. You’re welcome to step inside this truly unique place! Construction of Brucebo began around 1900 by Carolina Benedicks-Bruce (1856–1935) from Stockholm and her Canadian husband William Blair Bruce (1859–1906) in the spirit of National Romanticism and the turn of the century, seeking to blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. It was here that the couple worked and found inspiration to create a wealth of paintings and sculptures that can still be viewed today. Today, the Brucebo Artists’ Home is a museum open to visitors all year round.
