Shorinji Kempo
About the business
We practise Shorinji Kempo together every Monday from 17:30 to 19:00 during term time. It’s a mixed group, with children aged 10 and over, teenagers and adults all training together. You’re very welcome to come and give it a go! Shorinji Kempo is a well-rounded form of training that can be practised by anyone, regardless of gender or age. The training is varied, and our techniques incorporate punches, kicks, elbows, knees, throws, sweeps, holds and pressure points. Our techniques are designed to be effective in a real-life attack with no rules. They are therefore based on a combination of speed, balance and pain, with techniques targeting the fingers, throat, groin and other vulnerable points. During training, you’ll practise staying calm under pressure, develop strategies for dealing with different types of opponents and discover your favourite techniques. With us, you’ll hone your ability to concentrate, and every training session is designed to help you develop both physically and mentally. A typical session begins with meditation, continues with a warm-up, basics, techniques and sparring, and concludes with high-intensity interval training, explosive exercises or acupressure techniques. The long-term aim of the training is to contribute to a better society by developing strong and upright individuals who dare to stand up for their values.
