About the business

The area around Gangvidefarm and the Närsån river offers beautiful countryside and a rich variety of birdlife. Even beneath the water’s surface, the diversity of species can be astonishing. The Närsån river is one of the most species-rich areas in Sweden – fish, birds and nature! Your trip starts from Gangvidefarm, which offers accommodation and services; transfers can also be arranged. As well as common fish species such as perch, pike and roach, there are also rudd, tench, ide, brown trout and, occasionally, the unique silver bream. This variety of species makes for some exciting fishing! The lower section of the Närsån, a 3 km stretch, is open for fishing provided you hold a valid fishing licence. A valid fishing licence must be kept to hand throughout the fishing trip so that it can be presented upon request. Fishing around Gotland centres largely on the popular coastal fishing for sea trout. Fishing in waders with a spinning rod or fly rod attracts large numbers of anglers from both Sweden and other countries to Gotland every year. Sea trout are feisty and sometimes elusive fish that swim along the coast for much of the year. Spring is the most popular time, but it is possible to fish for sea trout at other times of the year as well. Thanks to the free hand-fishing regulations in the Baltic Sea, anyone is free to fish along the Gotland coast. However, there are, of course, rules and laws to follow. On the one hand, there are protected zones where fishing is prohibited during certain periods of the year; on the other hand, there are minimum and maximum sizes, as well as catch limits for different species.
