Summer course in Children’s Dance and Dance Mix, 8–10 July
Children’s Dance: Through imagination and play, we practise spatial and body awareness. Improvisation exercises that develop expressiveness and movement form the basis of my work – for example, walking, running, skipping and rolling on the floor. We dance to different styles of music to develop a sense of musicality and rhythm. Dance Mix: We dance to different styles of music to develop a sense of musicality and rhythm, and introduce steps and basic techniques from modern dance, ballet and jazz dance. Through improvisation, we develop dance expression and the ability to create our own movements. Pupils are given the tools to create their own dance sequences in a group. This summer, we will be using nature as a theme in both groups, bringing together what we have been working on into a dance that we will perform for parents on Friday.Teachers: Petra Howard – dance teacher and choreographer, trained at the Swedish National Academy of Dance (now SKH), and has been teaching children, young people and adults for over 20 years. Ellie Howard – has been dancing since she was 3 years old. This autumn, Ellie will begin her third year on the Arts Programme, specialising in dance, at Södra Latin Upper Secondary School; she also takes a further four dance classes a week at the Stockholm School of Culture and at Danshuset. Ellie has experience of teaching children dance and horse riding.
