Although the names had been changed, everyone knew that the film was based on Lauren Weisberger’s time as assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and Meryl Streep’s portrayal of the formidable Miranda Priestly became iconic. In the 20 years since its release, *The Devil Wears Prada* has become a frequently cited phenomenon. In 2006, it was difficult to get designers to make cameo appearances or provide outfits for the film, or even to find filming locations. No one wanted to fall out with Wintour. With her icy persona, by 2026 designers, celebrities and brands have been falling over themselves to be part of the film, the PR tour or the Disney+ livestreamed premieres around the world. Streep and Wintour were photographed together by Annie Leibovitz for the cover of *Vogue*, and also filmed a short (well-dressed) sketch. Wintour also played up her icy persona when she and Anne Hathaway presented an award at the Oscars earlier this year.The hype surrounding *The Devil Wears Prada 2* is marketing and brand-building on a five-dimensional scale.
