The live band Violet Green and All Between at Hantverkshuset
Violet Green pays tribute to the great divas of rock and blues. The motto of the classic blues divas was: ‘Tell it like it is!’ They broke taboos and protested against injustice and oppression with boldness and humour. They created new music and have inspired musicians for over a hundred years. In this show, Violet Green opens a treasure chest filled with music and anecdotes about the lives and influence of creative women. The audience is whisked away to a smoky piano bar in the American South and to the tent shows of the vaudeville artists. We encounter 1950s rhythm and blues, then Janis Joplin, who in the 1960s was inspired by Bessie Smith, and Mavis Staples (aged 86), who is still touring the world. The show’s central theme is a musical history featuring pioneers such as Memphis Minnie, Big Mama Thornton, Ethel Waters, Etta James, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Bessie Smith, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin and Mavis Staples, amongst others. On stage: Ulla Wrethagen – bandleader, guitar and vocals; Carola Andersson Mellqvist – vocals; Elsie Petrén – saxophone; Anna Zimmerman – keyboards and vocals; Eva Grund – drums; Lena Andersson – bass.Swish at the door to the band! The café will be bustling as always with sandwiches and treats. A warm welcome in collaboration with Studieförbundet Bilda and Studiefrämjandet Vuxenskolan
