Course in classical representational painting with Sissel Wibom
Course description: Whatever your level, you will be able to develop on this course as teaching is largely one-to-one. The group dynamic works best when participants have different levels of experience, knowledge and approaches. The teaching is flexible, depending on the participants and their choice of subject matter. You’ll be painting under supervision all day long. We’ll meet you wherever you are in your artistic development. The afternoon concludes with a review of the day’s work. Classic artistic issues are discussed on an ongoing basis. Painting takes place either indoors or outdoors, and you’ll practise painting still lifes, scenes or – why not – a self-portrait? How? You’ll ideally work with oil paint (water- or oil-based), but bear in mind that the paint can dry slowly. Acrylics are, of course, practical as they dry quickly (though this can also be a disadvantage). We will constantly revisit topics such as volume, different perspectives, light and shadow, simplifications and stylisations, basic colour theory, the effect of light on colour, and composition. We also cover the science of materials relating to colours, pigments and surfaces. Objectives: By the end of the course, you will have developed your visual perception, your technique and your three-dimensional representation. Materials: Your own, as per the attached materials list. Please bring your own easel, as there are only a few available.
