JULES SYLVAIN AND THE STARS

For this programme, Gotland Brass has selected gems from the well-stocked treasure trove of the ‘King of Schlager’, Jules Sylvain. Together with singer Filippa Maurin, the ensemble presents a warm and entertaining tribute to the great schlager composer and some of the stars he worked with. Jules Sylvain – or Stig Hansson, as he was actually called – wrote more than eight hundred melodies for artists such as Zarah Leander, Ulla Billquist and Brita Borg, and composed the music for most Swedish films of the 1930s and 1940s. Here, his music is performed by Filippa Maurin, who grew up in Västerås and trained at the Stockholm Opera School. Since completing her training, she has performed at venues including the Drottningholm Theatre and the Läckö Castle Opera. She moved to Gotland in 2009 and has since taken part in several productions with various ensembles from Gotlandsmusiken.
