Tribute exhibition for Gun Rodenius
Open 12:00 – 18:00. Opening reception on Sunday 28 June at 14:00. Venue: Grafikgruppen Visby, Ryska gränd 18. Free admission. This year, Visby Grafikverkstad celebrates its 40th anniversary. We would like to mark the occasion with an exhibition by a printmaker who has been with us right from the very beginning.Gun Rodenius (born 1942 in Östersund, now living in Visby) trained at the Institute for Art Teachers/Konstfack in Stockholm (1960–65) and worked as an art teacher for many years alongside her artistic practice. Over the decades, Gun has developed a consistent body of work centred on the face as a motif. Rodenius has worked in several printmaking techniques, from copperplate and collography to photopolymer and digital processing – but screen printing has become her most characteristic medium. One article describes how she “year after year creates these self-portraits. Colour upon colour is pieced together, overlapped and altered”, which reflects her methodical approach to layers, colour fields and form. In addition to her printmaking, Gun has created facial sculptures in black rubber and painted masks, through which she explores the many layers of identity. Her works are represented in several Swedish art museums, including the Gotland Art Museum, the Västerås Art Museum, the Swedish Arts Council, and various public institutions across Sweden. We are delighted to be exhibiting Gun’s pictures with the help of her son Pål. A warm welcome to all!
