Gotland Music – Magnificent symphonic wind music

A richness of sound rarely seen before will be on display when the Gotland Music Orchestra performs alongside the Royal Swedish Navy Band from Karlskrona. With nearly 50 musicians on stage, we can present a programme ranging from delicate, heartfelt pieces to grand symphonic wind music. The concert is conducted by Alexander Hanson, Music Director of the Royal Swedish Navy Band and a regular guest conductor with symphony and wind orchestras across Europe. The production is organised in collaboration with the Swedish Armed Forces Music Corps, and the musicians will be performing in uniform. Military bands have existed in Sweden for 500 years. Gotlandsmusiken has its roots in this tradition, and since the Gotland Regiment was re-established, the orchestra has been tasked with performing as the P 18 Band on selected occasions. The Swedish Armed Forces Band comprises three full-time military bands. The oldest is the Navy Band, which has operated continuously since Karlskrona was founded in the 1680s. The band has 30 full-time musicians. All fourteen of our musicians, along with a number of freelance musicians, take part in the Gotland Music Orchestra. Ticket sales begin on 8 August
