Pottery Course

Target group: Folkuniversitetet’s ceramics courses have mixed groups where experienced participants meet beginners. You do not need any prior knowledge; instead, you will develop at your own level and in your own time. Objective: By the end of the course, you will have deepened your knowledge of pottery wheel throwing.Content: As a beginner, you’ll receive basic instruction in pottery wheel throwing. We’ll go through every step of the process from the start, and you’ll have the chance to practise all the techniques at your own potter’s wheel in a relaxed and unhurried atmosphere. If you have experience of pottery, you’ll have the opportunity to practise the finer details and develop your technique. You’ll receive professional guidance tailored to your current level. We’ll also cover shaping and turning, engobe application and glazing, though we’ll use a simpler glazing technique.Teaching method: The course consists mainly of practical work under the guidance of the course leader. Some sessions are group-based. Materials: You will work with stoneware clays, glazes and engobes available in the ceramics studio. A materials charge of 80 kr/kg applies and is payable via Swish after the course has ended. Course leader Helle Kobbernagel is a qualified ceramist with extensive experience and teaching qualifications. She is highly trained in ceramics and runs her own ceramics business alongside her work at Folkuniversitetet.Opportunities for development: The craft of ceramics is vast, and the opportunities to improve your technique and develop your artistic style are endless. As teaching largely takes the form of individual supervision, you’ll have excellent opportunities to develop your skills if you take several terms or different ceramics courses.
